The Saruku Urban Walking Tour Expo ‚Q‚O‚O‚U is getting underway.
The word 'Saruku' is Nagasaki dialect for strolling leisurely around town. This festival gives you the opportunity to wander around and enjoy Nagasaki's unique atmosphere, learn about its fascinating history and sample the culinary delights on offer.
In order to guide you on your journey we have created ‚S‚Q different routes and courses covering ‚V‚S different topics.
There are three different ways of discovering Nagasaki - using the special Saruku map at your own pace (Nagasaki Yu-Saruku), being shown Nagasaki's historical and cultural landmarks by local resident guides (Nagasaki Tsu-Saruku), or as part of a guided tour led by specialists (Nagasaki Gaku-Saruku).
In addition, a plethora of events and performances will be held in Glover Garden, on Dejima, and at various other locations

Opened by the Portuguese in ‚P‚T‚V‚P, Nagasaki flourished as a busy trading port and center for Christian missionary activities. In ‚P‚U‚S‚P, after the adoption of a national ban on Christianity and the expulsion of the Portuguese, the Dutch trading post and Chinese settlement in Nagasaki became Japanfs only points of contact with the outside world. This monopoly lasted for more than ‚Q‚O‚O years and created in Nagasaki a unique blend of cultures and a liberal atmosphere unheard of in other parts of the country.
The atomic bomb catastrophe turned a dark page in Nagasakifs turbulent history, but the city in now a center of peace blessed with the beauty of nature and numerous places of historical and cultural interest which still exude the rich flavor of old Nagasaki.
Towering Megami Bridge that watches over the coming and going of ships and ferries is nearing completion and the reconstruction work at Dejima, Japan's only window to the world during its period of National Isolation is also well underway.
We invite you to stroll through the streets and experience and enjoy Nagasaki's long history and rich culture.
The Saruku Urban Walking Tour Expo ‚Q‚O‚O‚U is a unique way to discover this beautiful city.
Refreshing, mysterious, intriguing Nagasaki is all of these and more!
